Although still under a recovery process from the Coronavirus pandemic that caught the world by surprise in 2020 and in spite of the conflict in Ukraine, air traffic started to pick up the high figures of 2019. In some cases, and specific dates, it even got to surpass the figures from the abovementioned year. Nevertheless, due to the well-known social unrest in the European territory, these figures may present a very high volatility degree.
Air transport in the SW FAB, although moving in this same overall scenario, has shown a steady and rather highly noticeable recovery behavior in specific months of the year. In both Portugal and Spain, throughout 2022, a change in trend was evident, starting a recovery that was confirmed during the previous year that mainly took place in several specific months rather than in the summer/winter months.
At the institutional level, the year 2022 has been marked by the continuation of negotiations on SES 2+, with the participation of the Spanish and Portuguese aviation authorities.
