New inter-FAB cross border limit

On the basis of the Single European Sky (SES) legislation, SW FAB airspace improvements were established with a view to ensure that national airspace boundaries do not reduce the efficiency of air traffic flows.

In this context and as already mentioned, one of the main achievements of the SW FAB concerning the optimum utilization of the airspace was the delegation of ATS service provision between Spain and Portugal through the implementation in October 2012 of a new cross border boundary limit definition irrespective of national borders. This should be considered of a great value to overcome current limitations due to national borders.

In order to permit higher flexibility and operational efficiency of AOs (Aircraft Operators), the SW FAB has removed current National boundary limits, for ATS purposes.

Despite being a SW FAB internal project, this action has permitted to change the dimension of the SWFAB sectorization in line with main traffic flows.

SW FAB realigned the internal FIR State boundary limit and can be considered of a great value to overcome current limitations due to national borders. The last figure identifies the new intra-SW FAB boundary limit definition irrespective of National Boundaries, and in consideration with main traffic flows and aircraft operators’ expectations.

The new scenario can be considered of a great value to overcome current limitations due to national borders which will permit to obtain a flexible network in order to improve the operational efficiency.
